SERVICES PATIENTS ABOUT US
Family Birthing Center Classes

Education and preparation are essential to a safe and happy pregnancy, delivery and adjustment to a new addition to your family. To help you, your family and your baby, we offer the following classes:

Childbirth Preparation

All-in-one program presents research based, up-to-date information for expectant parents. Topics include: understanding pregnancy and labor, a birth story, comfort techniques, understanding medical procedures and cesarean birth, as well as intervention alternatives and un-medicated births, understanding the post-partum period including breastfeeding basics, and what to expect with immediate newborn care. Classes will also include a tour of the Family Birthing Center.

Childbirth Preparation Classes are offered as a series of four classes on Tuesday evenings from
6 - 9 p.m. every month; or as a condensed “Weekend Express” version consisting of two classes on Friday evening from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. every month. See 2012 schedule.

Sibling Preparation

Designed to prepare young children (generally aged 2 - 6 years old) for the arrival of their new brother or sister.  The class includes teaching positive sibling skills while watching a short video of other children so viewers relate kid-to-kid to the age-appropriate stories. Participants will learn about newborn appearances and how to interact with babies using dolls.  They will receive a family activity book, and tour of our nursery.

Sibling Preparation Classes are offered as a one-time class on Saturday mornings from 10am-11am every month. See 2012 schedule.

Better Breastfeeding

This program teaches parents the keys to breastfeeding success, including how to achieve an asymmetrical latch, which holds and positions are best, and how to maintain healthy milk production. Topics include: how breastfeeding works, latching on and positions, when to feed your baby and understanding how much is enough, breast care, and how to support a healthy and productive breastfeeding lifestyle.

Better Breastfeeding Classes are offered monthly as a one-night class on Wednesday evenings from 6 9 p.m. See 2012 schedule.

Breastfeeding Support Group

Research shows that a key component to continuing successful breastfeeding is providing mothers with adequate support.  This support and networking group will discuss topics including:  ideas for feeding in public, getting rest and proper nutrition, and returning to work. Mothers can bring their nursing infant(s) and meet other mothers in their same situation, gaining support and encouragement as well as guidance from the breastfeeding specialist leading the support group.

Breastfeeding Support Group meetings will be held one evening a week per month from 6-8pm and one morning a week per month from 10am-noon; this allows mothers with other children and/or jobs, etc. more flexibility to attend. See 2012 schedule.
